MOON OF MY LIFE
There she was under the awning in the rain
The whole world stopped in a moment
Our eyes locked and I knew
She didn’t know but I did
That she was the moon of my life
Shaky hands and a pounding heart
I slowly made my approach
Voice cracking like I was going through puberty
She gave me a smile that lit up my world
And right then I knew she was the moon of my life
Numbers were exchanged and dates were had
She knew I was weird and never called me names
Never called me a loser
Accepted me for me
Because she was the moon of my life
She rescued me from my nightmare
Of being cold and alone
She was sunlight coming into my darkened world
And brightening it up, making my world anew
She was the moon of my life
She kept me warm at night
Fulfilling passions only in fantasies
But it was always much more than sex
Waking up next to her was a dream come true
That's what made her the moon of my life
Even when the clouds started to form
And the rainy days came
She still believed in me and I in her
Life was never perfect but I loved every single day
Because she was the moon of my life
She was human, far from perfection
But that's what I loved most about her
Empathetic to how she was feeling
I comforted her on the days she felt low
Because she was the moon of my life
Many years passed and life went on
Gray hairs came in our twilight years
She was more beautiful then ever before
It was like seeing her for the first time again
Under the awning during that storm 50 years ago
Because she was the moon of my life
Dying old and satisfied, surrounded by family
Not afraid now to take my last breath
Don't cry my love, you gave me a beautiful life
I didn't live this long for me, It was all for you
You gave me a reason to want to go on In this world
I'm not sad, but I do want one last wish
To leave this world with one more kiss
The memory of it will last me for all of eternity
Until we meet again far beyond the stars
Returning to the universe that gave birth to us
I will wait for you until you we unite again
Because you are the moon of my life
