RETURNING TO THE STARS
He lived a long life, full of adventure and battles
He beat the best fighters and made their bones rattle
He found a loving wife he loved for all his life
And his thoughts were about her every day and night
But this night is different, he knew it was his time to die
To begin the journey upwards, into the sky
To be at home once again with the stars that gave him birth
He lies down and prepares for his soul to leave the earth
His breathing shallow as his loving wife looks on
Tears falling from her face because she knows he will be gone
Father sky has heard his wishes as he breaths his last breath
His vision dims until there is nothing left
Everything seems so far away as it feels like he's flying
He can still hear his wife's anguished crying
Higher and higher he travels into the atmosphere
He's blinded by the lights of all the stars here
He made it home, back where everything started
The beginning of the universe, where his soul was first parted
And sent through space and time by the death of a star
He came to be as a baby, crying with a birthmark as a scar
But now he's back were he belongs and he feels so fine
With many other souls in the celestial bond beyond mortal time
Here he will wait until his beloved wife makes the journey
So once again her beautiful soul he will see
And there they will be together until the universe collapses
But until it does for billions of years their love will be lasting.
