BETTER TO HAVE LOVED?

BETTER TO HAVE LOVED?

He stares out the window to his rule
Sees the people laughing and dancing in the streets
The war has ended but he felt like a fool
He can't go out there and smile to everyone he greets
While risking his life for his people he lost his love
His whole world was pulled from underneath him
This is the worst possible thing he could think of
He can barely lift his head, let alone grin
He sits alone looking out, wishing he were them
Celebrating the age of a war that lasted for decades
But he lost his one purpose, his lover, his best friend
And he can't move on, he can't turn the page
He realized the silliness of the words
It's better to have loved than to never find it
He had it and it's gone and he feels nothing but hurt
There's no pain that can be greater than this
He's a victorious king but he feels lower than dirt
Everyone celebrates but he can barely lift his head
He gave orders to his guards to leave him alone
He may be alive but inside he feels dead
A castle full of people still feels like such an empty home
If he never loved, he wouldn't feel this way
It would have been better if he never had it at all
At least he would be among the people instead of alone all day
Unable to feel anything as he mopes in his empty hall.
